A year of safe births in remote villages
Our community midwives attended 2,140 births in 2025. Here is what that work looks like, and what we are changing this year.

Our community midwives attended 2,140 births in 2025, almost all of them in villages that are hours from the nearest hospital. Each midwife works from a health post close to her own village, and she is often called out at night.
What the numbers show
- 2,140 births were attended by a trained midwife
- 4,870 women received at least two antenatal check-ups
- 212 women with complications were referred to hospital, with transport paid
Every one of these women was seen by another woman, which matters a great deal to the families we work with.
What we are changing
Midwives told us that their biggest problem was running out of supplies during winter, when roads close. This year every health post will receive its winter stock of delivery kits and medicines by the end of October, two months earlier than before.
